Quality, freshness & ingredient integrity | How Superlatte products are made
Every Superlatte blend is created with the same goal: to make delicious, natural drinks using ingredients we would happily serve to our own families. From our original Matcha & Mint Latte to our Organic Ceremonial Matcha, every product reflects the same philosophy. Real ingredients. Small batches. No shortcuts.

Supernatural vibes only
Around Superlatte, we have a simple saying: Supernatural vibes only. It sounds playful, but it captures a philosophy that influences every product we create.
When we develop a blend, we start with ingredients rather than additives. We would rather let turmeric taste like turmeric and matcha taste like matcha than build a product around flavour systems, colourants, sweeteners, and processing aids.
That means no artificial flavours, no artificial colours, no preservatives, no thickeners, and no unnecessary fillers. If an ingredient exists primarily to make manufacturing easier rather than improve the final product, it probably does not belong in a Superlatte pouch.
Many commercial hot chocolates, flavoured beverage powders, and instant latte products take a different approach. Read the ingredient list and you will often find stabilisers, emulsifiers, anti-caking agents, flavour enhancers, bulking agents, colourants, and a long list of ingredients that have little to do with the star ingredient on the front of the pack.
There is nothing inherently dangerous about these ingredients. Most are approved for use and widely consumed. Our philosophy is simply different. We believe the fewer unnecessary ingredients between nature and your cup, the better.
Leave it to mother nature. She has been getting it right for a very long time.
Quality starts with sourcing
Superlatte launched in 2017 with 3 blends: Matcha & Mint Latte, Turmeric Latte, and Beetroot Latte. All 3 remain part of the range today, a reflection of how carefully we approach product development.
In 2025, we introduced Organic Ceremonial Matcha. We deliberately waited years before launching it because we wanted to secure a grower capable of delivering the quality, flavour profile, and consistency we were looking for season after season.
That decision tells you a lot about how we work. We do not chase trends and we do not launch products simply because demand exists. We launch products when we are confident we can do them properly.
Small batches, better control
Every Superlatte blend is produced in small batches because quality is easier to protect when you stay close to the process. Smaller production runs allow us to maintain tighter control over ingredient quality, freshness, consistency, and traceability.
They also mean ingredients move through our system more quickly and spend less time sitting in storage. Fresh ingredients make better products, and after nearly a decade of manufacturing Superlatte, we have found that this approach consistently delivers the best results.
Carefully selected suppliers
We work with suppliers who share our standards for quality, freshness, traceability, and sustainability. Many of our key ingredients are certified organic, and everything we use is non-GMO and non-irradiated.
We build long-term supplier relationships because consistency matters just as much as quality. The best recipe in the world is only as good as the ingredients that go into it, and we take that responsibility seriously.
How we keep ingredients fresh
Freshness starts long before a pouch is sealed. Many of our ingredients arrive in protective double-layer packaging designed to minimise exposure to oxygen and moisture during transport and storage.
From the moment ingredients arrive, we work to minimise unnecessary handling and exposure. Less exposure helps preserve flavour, aroma, colour, and ingredient integrity, all of which contribute to a better experience in the cup.
A dedicated approach to matcha
Matcha is one of the most delicate ingredients we work with. Exposure to oxygen, moisture, heat, and light can quickly affect flavour, aroma, and colour, which is why we treat it differently to every other ingredient in our range.
Superlatte Organic Ceremonial Matcha is packed in a dedicated matcha room operating under allergen-controlled procedures. The product is handled by team members trained specifically in matcha packing and quality control, helping us protect the vibrant green colour and fresh flavour that ceremonial grade matcha is known for.
Our Organic Ceremonial Matcha also undergoes independent verification through accredited Australian testing and quality assurance processes, providing additional confidence in the consistency and integrity of every batch.
"As matcha is particularly sensitive to oxygen, moisture, heat and light, our handling and packaging procedures are designed specifically to minimise exposure throughout the packing process."

Full batch traceability
Every Superlatte batch is fully traceable from ingredient sourcing through to final packing. Detailed batch records allow us to monitor quality, consistency, and accountability throughout the production process.
Traceability forms an important part of our quality and food safety systems. It helps us maintain the standards customers expect while providing confidence in every product we manufacture.
Packaging chosen for freshness
Packaging plays a critical role in protecting quality. Superlatte products are packed in recyclable #4 LDPE pouches selected for both product protection and sustainability.
The packaging helps protect against moisture and environmental exposure while remaining recyclable where facilities exist. It also aligns with packaging standards increasingly adopted by major retailers in South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Every pouch is resealable, helping maintain quality after opening and protecting the ingredients from unnecessary exposure between uses.
What is the shelf life of Superlatte products?
Every Superlatte product carries a 24 month shelf life from the date of manufacture. The best before date is printed on the base of every pack, giving customers a clear and reliable reference point.
That shelf life is not an arbitrary number. It reflects years of production experience, packaging improvements, ingredient management, and quality control. What began as an 18 month shelf life evolved into a 24 month shelf life as our understanding of the products, packaging, and long-term quality performance improved over time.
When stored according to the instructions on the pack, Superlatte products are designed to maintain their quality through to the printed best before date.
How to keep your Superlatte fresh
- Reseal the pouch completely after use
- Store away from direct sunlight
- Keep away from moisture and steam
- Use a clean, dry spoon
- Store in a cool, dry cupboard

People matter too
Superlatte products are packed in a fully compliant facility that also operates as a social enterprise. The people involved in packing and production are developing practical business and micro-enterprise skills while contributing to products enjoyed by customers throughout South Africa and beyond.
Quality is not only about ingredients and systems. It is also about the people behind them, and we are proud to support a model that creates opportunities while maintaining high production standards.
Our promise
Quality is not a marketing claim at Superlatte. It is a series of decisions made every day, from the suppliers we choose and the ingredients we reject to the batches we produce and the packaging we use.
Those decisions have shaped the brand since 2017 and continue to guide every product we create. They are the reason cafés, retailers, and customers trust Superlatte, and they are the reason we remain committed to doing things the slower, more deliberate way.
Because when it comes to ingredients, freshness, and flavour, we believe some things are worth getting right.
